H for ‘08: I am embarrassed to use that excuse, anything else to say?
My boss is a bit weird. He always questions. I have used the food poisoning thing before. Since I have come off the pill (mood issues) I have had a few yeast infections during ovulation ( due to the hormone change and adjusting) and I feel embarrassed saying I ate something bad after being out sick for that a few months prior.
I have sick time saved up where I don’t need a dr. note, he is just inappropriate in asking what I have (as small talk) I guess. makes me embarrassed.
Morely: maybe you have been lucky enough to not have one or not have such an awful one, but sometimes they can be quite uncomfortable. Thank though for your advice.
sorry for some typos.

I would just tell him that it was a “womanly problem”… most men will stop in their tracks RIGHT there! If you see your doctor it wouldn’t hurt to get a note to back you up.

Tell him you had food poisoning. I had a really bad UTI once and couldnt make it to work, that’s all I had to say, and they left me alone. It’s perfect because then they cant bug you if you have to make frequent trips to the ladies room.

Just tell him you needed to go to the doctor for something. If he asks further then tell him you had to see a gynocologist…his mouth will probably drop open, and I bet he’ll never ask again!

I’ve been through a situation like that. If my cramps for my period are excrutiating (happens about every 3 months) I call out of work, and that’s the only time I ever call.
The very first time, I just said that I was having some personal problems that needed to be taken care of. Then, I just smiled.
He understood and he’s never asked me. He wasn’t offended, but he respects me and your boss should too.

Go to your doctor and get a doctors certificate backing up that you had a genuine reason for being off work. Your boss should not question you and your time off work.

Tell him its personal. Its really none of his business what sickness you had. But really, why do you need to call in sick for a yeast infection?

i would tell him that i had food poisoning as well. giving too much information about your personal life isnt necessary, esp. if its your male boss.

When you miss work, explain to your doctor why and then tell them that your boss will demand an explination and ask them for an excuse. All your doctor has to do is give you a signed note that says something generic like: “______ was unable to attend work on the following date(s):______, and is able to return to work on this date _____” . Hand the note to your boss and tell them you’re feeling better and you’re ready to return to work. When your boss asks you what was wrong thank him for his concern, then tell him you weren’t feeling well but you’re better now. If he bagers you about it don’t hesitate to tell him, “No offense, but, I prefer to keep my health issues private”. As long as you have a doctor’s excuse, legally he can’t harrass you about why you were gone.
