Jaylen Is Due 12.24.2009 asked: My cousin is 19 and she is bipolar with depression and other mental problems! She found out she is pregnant, can someone like this handle a pregnancy or a child? I love her, and I want the best for her. She wants to keep her baby. Any advice?
Thanks

Sure they can have one. Now can they raise it without killing it, that’s another thing entirely.

She can but you as a cousin have to make sure she is giving the child positive energies.
The child needs to grow healthy.

if a woman with 5 children on welfare with no job or education can have a baby, then yes.

If possible, have her seek counseling now. It’s not going to be healthy for the baby to be raised by someone who is mentally unhealthy.

I would say she would be a horrible mother if her mental issues are not in order….ie taking meds and whatnot. I really feel bad for this baby.

Mother Nature wants a baby, so yeah, any person who is fertile can have one. Whether she should raise the child is another question. Look at it this way: Being bipolar and depressed, is there any other way of living that she can teach the child? No! Best for the child to give it up until Mom has found some real healing, or we’ll have yet another crazy person.

you can have a baby while having mental issues, just tell her that she needs to stay on her meds, and tell her pyshciatrist (NOW) that she is pregnant to make sure the meds that she is on are safe for a baby!!!!!!
It can be really hard at times with having mental issues and a crying baby, she would probably need some help the first 6 or so months of the babies life. but best of luck.

She can have a baby, and the baby is not automatically going to inherent her problems, but it is possible.
At 19 with those problems you are saying, I would have to say that it is probably not the best situation for a newborn. I could be wrong, because I do not know the living arrangements, education, financial status, or lifestyle.

Yes. About 50% of the population is mentally ill…it’s tough, but it can be dealt with.
